henever people asks me if I know St. Therésè, my answer is “Oo naman, Ate ko yun eh, si Ate St. Therésè.” And I have a different kind of Story on how I became a devotee of St. Therésè.
My mother was a devotee of St. Therese, and she loved roses too. When she was diagnosed with breast cancer in January 2015, she held on even tighter to her faith through St. Therese.
I had a miracle recently… As a young lady, I was mischievous because I stole 3 equatorial roses from this beautiful saint (St. Therese of the Child Jesus) 5 years ago.
She manifested to me through ways that led me to her. It was the last relic visit when I was tempted to be with another man by meeting him and doing something sexual.
I grew up with religious parents. But started serving the church in the late 2008. It was during the wake of my father in 2000 (which I think was her 1st visit in the Philippines) where I came to know St. Therese. First because of the beautiful facade of the reliquary. Second, the church was decorated with a lot of roses and third was because, I think all the unsold roses of the vendors were offered to my dad.
I am Maria Fe V. Dehayco, 26 years old and a single mother. Last July 23, 2015, I felt a lump on my left breast. I consulted a doctor in Gat Andres Bonifacio Medical Center. The ultrasound didn’t yield good results so I had a biopsy last September. I was diagnosed with Ductal carcinoma or breast cancer.
I was blessed to see her relics during her third visit last 2012-2013. It was on January 24, 2013, my 24th birthday, when I was able to visit her relics at the Mater Carmeli Monastery in Sta. Ignacia, Tarlac. It was also my first time to visit the said monastery, where my Carmelite nun friend was then prioress. A lot of wonderful things have happened to me since then. She showered me with roses from heaven as she promised!
One of the greatest blessings St Therese gave me is making my dream of working overseas come true. February 2016, I prayed to her to guide me in looking for work and within a few days, I was shortlisted for interview. Her intercessions helped me to pass my exams and complete all the documents and requirements.
I remember St. Therese when I was 18 years old. I prayed and made a novena to her to grant me a boyfriend who would eventually be my husband, and whom I will not regret in my life.
My devotion to the “Little Way” began when I was a young boy of 9 or 10, when a person gave me a flyer of the Shrine of St. Therese in Pasay City. With that, I got curious and I tried to find out who St. Therese was, her life, and why she is called the “Little Flower”. I found out that she was a simple Carmelite Nun with a big desire to live in holiness through the simple things that we do in life.
St. Therese is my first love. Or at least the first saint that I have loved. The truth is, I had never been a devotee of any saints before St. Therese came into my life. It’s not that I did not believe in them, but I just did not feel the need for such devotion. I only have Christ and Mama Mary nothing more, nothing less. This was my belief back then.
Doon natuto ako ng kanyang Little Way…
I would like to share my son’s journey about St. Therese. My son is DM Garcia, now a 6th grader in St. Therese of the Child Jesus of the Holy Face School. Since grade 1, he really admired St. Therese.
